Dr. Borikar is a senior water engineer/researcher with over 36 years of experience in drinking water treatment. Dr. Borikar worked as Science & Technology Lead with the Walkerton Clean Water Centre (WCWC, Canada) for almost 19 years (2005-2024). During this time, Dr. Borikar developed over five technical training courses such as ozone, NOM & DBPs and membranes. Dr. Borikar delivered more than a hundred advanced drinking courses, including onsite courses @ WTPs, e.g. five “Ozone in Drinking Water Treatment” training courses (2019-2023) at Oakville WTP for Halton Region (Ontario, Canada) 75 operators. Dr. Borikar developed and delivered the "Defluoridation" training course in 1994.
Dr. Borikar also led more than 100 drinking water treatment pilot testing projects to help Ontario WTPs troubleshoot, upgrade, modify, optimize, and validate water treatment processes/ conditions but not limited to disinfection by-products, arsenic, ozone, AOPs, taste & odour, and coagulant selection. Dr. Borikar was one of the technical experts/leaders who designed and set up the Technology Demonstration Facilities for the WCWC, Walkerton, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Borikar's academic journey is as diverse as his professional career. He holds a Ph. D. degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of British Columbia (British Columbia, Canada), a Master of Science Degree in Sanitary (Water & Wastewater) Engineering from IHE, Delft, the Netherlands, a Master of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada), and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Gujarat University (India). His degrees span Asia, Europe, and North America, including a Chemical and Biological Engineering doctorate, reflecting his unwavering commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Dr. Borikar has been a Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario for almost 20 years (since April 12, 2005) and expects a Professional Engineer (P. E.) license from Texas, US, in two weeks. Dr. Borikar has been an active member of Ontario’s OWWA Treatment Committee for over ten years.
