Dr. Borikar is a senior water engineer/applied researcher with over 38 years of experience in drinking water treatment. Dr. Borikar served as Science & Technology Lead at the Walkerton Clean Water Centre (WCWC, Canada) for nearly 19 years (2005-2024). During this time, Dr. Borikar developed over five technical training courses, including ozone, NOM & DBPs, and membranes. Dr. Borikar delivered more than 100 advanced drinking water courses, including onsite courses at WTPs, e.g., five “Ozone in Drinking Water Treatment” training courses (2019-2023) at Oakville WTP for Halton Region (Ontario, Canada), totalling 75 operators.
Dr. Borikar was one of the technical experts/leaders who designed and set up the Technology Demonstration Facility for the WCWC, Walkerton, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Borikar also led more than 100 drinking water treatment pilot testing projects to help Ontario WTPs troubleshoot, upgrade, modify, optimize, and validate water treatment processes/ conditions, including organics, disinfection by-products, iron, manganese, ammonia, arsenic, ozone, AOPs, taste & odour, filtration, and coagulant selection.
Dr. Borikar's academic journey is as diverse as his professional career. He holds a Ph. D. degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of British Columbia (British Columbia, Canada), a Master of Science Degree in Sanitary (Water & Wastewater) Engineering from IHE, Delft, the Netherlands, a Master of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Windsor (Ontario, Canada), and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Gujarat University (India). His degrees span Asia, Europe, and North America, including a doctorate in Chemical and Biological Engineering, reflecting his unwavering commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Dr. Borikar has been a Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario for over 20 years. Dr. Borikar has been an active member of the Ontario OWWA Treatment Committee for over ten years. Dr. Borikar has been a member of AWWA/OWWA since 2005.
