PFAS Zero: Innovative Treatment and Disposal Options

COURSE CONTENT

  • This course is a comprehensive guide that thoroughly explains the challenges and solutions for targeting PFAS  below non-detectable levels in treated drinking water and safely disposing of concentrated PFAS waste.

  • It presents the health impacts of PFAS, its molecular structure (see the photo on the side), main types, regulatory US and EU  requirements, Health Canada Guidelines, proper US monitoring and testing procedures, and more.

  • This training is live, practical, interactive, and engaging. It includes group activities for troubleshooting different water treatment situations.

What participants will learn?

  • Cutting-edge PFAS treatment technologies include GAC, AIX (see photos below), nanofiltration/ RO and novel absorbents. This section discusses their efficacy, limitations,  design criteria, case studies, safe disposal technologies and more.

  • This course transforms complicated PFAS into simple PFAS and connects current research into drinking water plant operation in the ever-changing PFAS regulatory landscape.

Course Approvals in California, New York,Texas, Illinois, Washington, Michigan & Massachusetts (the US) & Ontario (Canada)

  • The California State Water Resource Control Board, Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (Course ID # 1784), Massachusetts - MassDEP Drinking Water Program (ID # DWT-2024-79), Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (ID # 21416), Washington Certification Services (ID # A3492 for 0.6 CEUs), Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy ( ID # 4332, 0.6 CEUs) and New York Department of Health (0.65 CEUs) approved the PFAS course while awaiting approvals from Florida, New York, and other US states.

  • The Ontario Ministry of the Environment Director (Canada) has also approved this PFAS course (ID # 17375), which earns 0.7 CEUs for operators under O. Reg. 128/04 in Ontario.

  • Remaining attendees will receive an attendance certificate acknowledging their commitment to professional development.

Anion Ion Exchange Treatment for PFAS removal

Anion exchange is a relatively new drinking water treatment process that is gaining importance because it is one of two of the most viable and reliable PFAS drinking water treatment processes. Although it is very effective in a short contact time, it can significantly change the chlorination process and deteriorate distribution water quality in terms of pH, alkalinity, and corrosion capability.

GAC Treatment for PFAS Removal

GAC Treatment for PFAS Removal

GAC is typically used in drinking water treatment. However, its design and operation differ from those of conventional treatment. Although it is one of two of the most viable and reliable PFAS drinking water treatment processes, it has a few limitations. For example,  the removal efficacy of specific PFAS is not very good and can deteriorate distribution water quality.
